Health classes explained

Definitions of Preferred Plus, Preferred, Standard Plus and Standard—what each label represents and which factors determine placement.

Term pricing is organized into rate classes. Company names shift slightly, but structure stays uniform: Preferred Plus (or Super Preferred/Preferred Best), Preferred, Standard Plus and Standard, plus indexed ratings for elevated risk. Tobacco use creates a separate tier with higher pricing.

What underwriters look at

Body weight and composition, blood pressure and cholesterol numbers, parents or siblings with early heart disease or cancer, motor-vehicle history, current medications, job and leisure activities, and smoking or nicotine status. Preferred Plus requires strong results on nearly everything; Preferred permits a bit of variation; Standard Plus and Standard accept managed conditions like controlled high blood pressure.

How to use the quote tool

The health question requests honest self-assessment: Excellent aligns with Preferred Plus, Very good with Preferred, Good with Standard Plus and Average with Standard. Quotes mirror that class; underwriting fixes the final class after review. Uncertain? Get quotes at two classes to evaluate, then allow the application to confirm. Picking a higher class does not reduce cost; it just skews the estimate.

Susman Insurance Agency is equipped to match you with carriers whose underwriting treats your condition favorably, which can outweigh advertised rates.
